Newly updated wildfire maps lead to safety updates
Cal Fire has released new fire hazard severity zone maps for Northern California, highlighting 2.3 million acres at high risk for wildfires, raising concerns for homeowners. These maps trace back to the 1980 Panorama Fire in San Bernardino County, one of California's first major wildfires. The draft maps show "fire hazard severity zones," indicating the chances of a wildfire starting in a certain area based on weather, terrain, and vegetation. The second phase of the update is complete, with the final phase expected to finish by the end of March, which will include Southern California.
